Professional Resilience: Building a Foundation to Navigate Stress at Work
Resilience is our ability to bounce back from challenging or stressful situations. Resilience can erode over time as we face challenging business environments, difficult personalities, even abusive or toxic workplaces. One way to ensure you can be at your best at work is to build your professional resilience. Having a strong level of resilience won’t eliminate your stress completely, but it can help you successfully navigate the everyday challenges and stress you face every day. Resilience can be built over time with intentional practice. During this session you will build a personal plan for building your professional resilience.
Learning Objectives:
Participants will be able to explain why resilience is important for success as professionals and how quickly resilience can erode in today’s workplaces.
Participants will create a professional resilience plan to maintain or build a strong level of professional resilience.
Speaker:
Dawn Johnson is a Senior Analyst in ALLETE’s Learning and Organization Development department and the owner of On the Rise Development, LLC. Her work, in both her business and at ALLETE, revolves around the development of leaders at all levels. Dawn is most well known regionally for her presentations on building trust in the workplace. When she recently discovered the concept of professional resilience, she immediately found a connection to her trust work – specifically with betrayal. The work done to build resilience can also be used after a betrayal. Resilience exercises provide additional tools to help a professional feel stronger and more confident in the face of stress. Dawn holds a B.A. in Psychology along with an MBA and a Master of Arts in Management (MAM) all from The College of St. Scholastica. In addition to her formal education, she is certified in a variety of tools and assessments including InsideOut Coaching, Appreciation at Work, the Strengths Deployment Inventory, and the Clark Wilson 360 assessment.
