Coaching Up: Designing an Alliance to Communicate at any Level
Presented by Melanie Keveles

While we operate in multi-layered organizations, it is often the person at the lower levels who holds keys to understanding what’s important to the organization since they are often closer to the customers/clients than those at the top.  Conveying important messages and getting people at higher levels to buy into concepts they may not be aware of or ready to grasp is often challenging.  This program is designed to give participants a new viewpoint about their need to have such courageous conversations and tools for doing so.  Through practice, coaching up becomes second nature and a viable part of a person’s repertoire, no matter what level of the organization.

Upon completion of the presentation, participants will:

·       Understand what coaching and coaching up is and isn’t

·        Identify effective strategies for coaching up

·       Commit to using at least one strategy with a manager or supervisor and reporting back

Sponsored by your ATD Chapter and presented by Melanie Keveles

One of Melanie Keveles’ colleagues once dubbed her a “midwife for new ideas,” an apt description for a woman who is truly committed to the idea that everyone deserves the opportunity to express themselves as fully as they possibly can in their work and lives.

Since 1998, Melanie has been an entrepreneur, running her coaching business, Starting Fresh Coaching LLC (www.startingfreshcoaching.com) from her home in Northern Wisconsin.  She has developed a model that she uses successfully with her clients looking for greater career satisfaction. No matter where clients live in the world, she coaches via telephone and internet connection. Keveles authored Scrappy Startups: How 15 Ordinary Women Turned their Unique Ideas into Profitable Businesses and co-authored Fired for Success: How to Turn Losing Your Job into an Opportunity of a Lifetime!

A native of New York where her father worked well  past 100 years old, Keveles had the opportunity in the mid-70’s to live in Europe and teach English for the University of Maryland in their Overseas Division, a journey she shared with her husband, a professor of  Criminal Justice.  With their adult son living on his own, today Keveles and her husband share their home near Lake Superior with their miniature poodle, Grace.
